Mothers who stay at home to raise children are often disadvantaged when it comes to further education. Not only do you normally put off your own education, but when it does come time to make that decision to go to school, you might find yourself without a means to pay for it.

The Best Way To Fund Your Education

Scholarships for stay at home moms going back to school give you free money that you don’t have to repay (unlike a loan which you must repay, plus interest!) But which scholarships should you apply for?

Minority Scholarships

These types of programs are aimed at people from ‘minority groups’. Sometimes this is a very tight knit section of society, but other times it can simply mean all women or Hispanic people for instance. So whilst there are thousands of people who might apply, at least you know that a minority scholarship has your particular needs in mind.

Federal Student Aid

In addition to private scholarship programs, there are also government grants that you can apply for. You will need to fill out an FAFSA so that your family contribution and eligibility for a grant can be determined.

If you are on a low income then you may be eligible for the Pell Grant. This is worth over $5000 and is a great way to get money that will cover a lot of your tuition, plus some other expenses as well. Whichever scholarship or grant you get, know that just because you are a stay at home mom it does not mean that you should give up on your educational and career dreams.
