Her fingers scratched guitar strings like a ray of sun rises the morning dew that reveal the beauty of the Earth. The essence of the music flows with its creative and innovative, like the wind rustling the leaves, while trying to elevate and inspire others to get what were previously considered impossible. This is the mission of Veronica Isabel Sotelo, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) greater degree in political science, theater, and a certificate of crops and community.Born is Leon, Mexico, Sotelo came to the United States with the his family.

He finished elementary school in Beloit, Wisconsin, and graduated from high school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Fluent in Spanish and English, which she considers most advantageous. It encourages students to become bilingual and use these skills to help others and their cultural advancement. "During my first year at UWM, has improved his knowledge of politics by the Democrats and the College Latino Student Union (LSU)," Sotelo States. "My second year I was hailed as the vice president of LSU and my third year as president.

Honed his leadership skills during these periods. I think students should seize the moment in Latin, and be encouraged not to leave the golden opportunity of leadership without passion involved Latinos, "Sotelo adds.Realizing missed a golden opportunity to advance higher education, has produced a brochure that describes the Scholarship: orientation, sources funding, deadlines, tips and other useful information to motivate them to pursue higher education. The brochure was created by students for students and LSU held seminars in secondary schools to disseminate information.

Later, talking with him an opportunity to address the whole person through their educational process. Believes that the speeches he has gained experience in the local community, which was really great. He also believes that students should take the time to bring everything to college and work to strengthen their leadership skills.Sotelo describes his work as an aid to achieve their goals Latino access to higher education. They must know what it takes to college. The positive impact of his contribution to the community, and helping to develop Latin pride in themselves, are considered important results in its LSU.

"These actions are necessary today because Latinos do not have many resources, and they need more education professionals enter the market as role models, and develops the positive influence on others during high school," she said. " have a high school diploma is not enough, nor is leaving and to engage in group participation is conducive to their welfare, "he says. Sotelo is a great joy in helping others through the educational process, allowing them to be all they can be.Regarding generational and cultural gaps, sees language as a barrier for Latinos.

"The first generation may not have attended college and is not aware of the benefits available. This creates a major obstacle to help their children with homework. Moreover, the gap widens when the present generation is involved in active road, leaving parents at a loss because of language barriers and generations. "Sotelo see these actions as adding the negative stereotype of Latinos, which must be removed. Urges all the Latinos to maintain a positive attitude and stay positive while advancing their careers on track.

"The Monologue Latin was a great feature for LSU on Latina women tell their stories. In addition, LSU has participated in cultural activities with the Black Student Union, Multicultural Student Center, the Asian Student Union and Kappa Delta Chi, which was co-sponsored by interested parties at UWM. We performed a series of exhibits on multicultural stereotype activities based on how others judge erroneously a person, "he reflects. The monologue was also aired on "Morning Blend", a daily television program in Milwaukee, which has positive exposure to the vision of leadership Latinos.

Ready or not, October marks that time of year when college-bound high school juniors prepare to take the PSAT, which serves as practice for that dreaded and sometimes feared SAT I. Before you work yourself up into a full-fledged anxiety attack at the mere mention of the word “SAT,” consider this:
The National Center for Fair and Open Testing lists over 730 four-year colleges in the United States that no longer require the SAT I or ACT for admission. That’s right — over 730 colleges! Moreover, a rising number of colleges are beginning to place a bigger emphasis on grades and personal accomplishments over scores.

The belief that you’ll never get into a good college and you’ll never be successful in life if you don’t master, Hispanic, the SAT is a total myth. I’ll give you a personal example: Both in our twenties, my husband and I are not SAT success stories. I scored a mere 1070 on the SAT in 1996 and never bothered to retake the test. I hate standardized tests and never do well on them. Yet I still went to an excellent college in Western New York on an academic scholarship and graduated at the top of my class.

Today, I’m an accomplished writer with national and regional credits. My 27-year-old husband never even took the SAT! He went to a two-year college for graphic design that didn’t require the SATs. After he received his Associates degree, he transferred to a four-year college and earned his Bachelors degree with honors. Today, he’s a successful print/web designer., Hispanic, We are not the exceptions to the rule.
I’m certainly not telling you to waltz into the SAT exam room with an “I-don’t-give-a-s#@$” attitude, but keep things in perspective.

Whether you ace the SATs, fail them big-time, retake them three times, or decide never to take them at all, you can be successful in life. I will repeat that: You CAN be successful in life with or without the SAT, or the ACT for that matter.
Questions to think about:

What SAT score or ACT score do you consider “good enough?”
Do you plan to retake the SAT or ACT if you don’t get the score you hoped for?
Do you believe that you can be successful in life regardless of your SAT score?
